We have all the tools. What do we do with them?

I agree with the recent article in Read/Write Web that too much money is being thrown away on yet another social bookmarking service and now enough money being spent on using social media tools to make a difference in the lives of everyday people. What are the ways in which you think that social media should be used to make a better world?
